2nd Worker Injured in Oklahoma Refinery Blast Dies

A second man who was injured in an explosion at a southern Oklahoma oil refinery has died.

A spokesman at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center in Oklahoma City says Russell Mann of Davis died Oct. 16.

Mann was injured and Billy Smith of Pauls Valley was killed in the Sept. 28 explosion of a boiler at Wynnewood Refining Co., owned by CVR Energy Inc. of Sugar Land, Texas.

CVR officials have said the explosion occurred as the boiler was being restarted following scheduled maintenance and upkeep

Report: Texas Reforms Reduced Costs of Medical Care for Injured Workers

A new study from the Workers Compensation Research Institute (WCRI), an independent, not-for-profit research organization based in Cambridge, Mass., says that costs of medical care for injured workers in Texas have dropped. The study says the drop is largely the result of reforms and an increased focus and effort on managing medical care in the state’s workers’ compensation system.
