SIAA Adds Eight West Members

The Strategic Insurance Agency Alliance added eight members from the Western U.S. in April, SIAA announced.

April’s new West members include:

Castell Insurance of Sequim, Wash.Vanessa Montes Insurance of Escondido, Calif.Courtland Insurance Agency of Denver, Colo.McDowell Insurance Agency of Lakewood, Colo.Ram Commercial Insurance Services of Morgan Hill, Calif.Danny Castilla of Santa Fe Springs, Calif.Perry Insurance Agency of Vernal, UtahLinsin, Sherman Associates of San Rafael, Calif.

Since its inception in 1995, SIAA has signed over 4,000 new members. SIAA members created more than $780 million in new premium growth in 2011, their third straight year over $750 million, according to the group.

SIAA Adds 10 New Agency Members in Northeast

The Strategic Insurance Agency Alliance (SIAA), a national alliance of over 4,000 independent insurance agencies, said it added 10 new agency members in the Northeast region in April

The new members are: Sutton & Tarantino Insurance of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; Rogowski-Verrette Insurance of Worcester, Mass.; Millstone Community Insurance of Pittsburgh; Landis Insurance Services of Vineland, N.J.; DR & Associates Insurance Services of Danbury, Conn.; Insuramerica of Buffalo, N.Y.; Valentine Insurance of Catskill, N.Y.; Mike Marsh Insurance Agency of Bedford, N.H.; Divine Insurance of Providence, R.I.; and Angle Planning Concepts of Dover, Del.

Across the country, SIAA added 45 new members in April. Among them, 33 had been captive agents and are new to the independent agency system.

SIAA members created more than $780 million in new premium growth in 2011. Since it’s inception in 1995, SIAA has signed over 4,000 new members. SIAA is dedicated to the creation, retention and growth of the independent insurance agency distribution system.

N.J. Crew Members Sentenced in Failed Bid to Sink Ship, Collect $400K

Two men who admitted roles in a botched attempt to sink a fishing boat to collect insurance money are now headed to federal prison.

Erik James of Goshen and Christopher Martin of Wildwood both received 30-month terms when they were sentenced Tuesday. The men, who are both 40 years old, were former crew members on the Alexander II fishing boat.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office has said the pair and three other defendants — including the ship’s owner — sought $400,000 in insurance money. They took the boat to a point about 86 miles southeast of Cape May and tried unsuccessfully to sink it, after falsifying the ship’s log.

James and Martin had both pleaded guilty to complaints charging them with conspiracy to destroy the boat on the high seas.
