Massachusetts Physicians Group Offers Update on Medical Liability Reform
A Massachusetts physicians and hospitals association this week provided an update on the state’s implementation of the Communication, Apology, and Resolution (CARe) program.
The Massachusetts Alliance for Communication and Resolution following Medical Injury (MACRMI) is an organization formed in 2012. It was formed as the result of a research initiative that began three years ago and is led by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the Massachusetts Medical Society, the statewide professional association of physicians.
MACRMI’s participants and supporters also include Baystate Health, Massachusetts Hospital Association, Massachusetts Coalition for the Prevention of Medical Errors, Medically Induced Trauma Support Services, as well as health insurers, provider organizations, and patient advocacy groups. The group is dedicated to the prompt resolution of medical liability arising from injuries to patients.

Isaac Now a Hurricane: Update
The National Hurricane Center says the center of what is now Hurricane Isaac may make landfall on the southeast Louisiana coastline as early as this evening.
Not all forecasters share that timeline, however. Dr. Tim Doggett, principal scientist at AIR Worldwide, says the hurricane’s eye will more likely hit the coastline around 8 a.m. on Wed., Aug. 29.
Either way, the hurricane, which is now packing maximum sustained winds of 75 mph, is on a northwesterly track toward the mouth of the Mississippi River, the NHC reports.
Significant flooding from storm surge and rainfall is expected.
At midday on Aug. 28, the storm was located about 75 miles south-southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River and about 160 miles to the south-southeast of New Orleans, according to AIR Worldwide.

RMS Update on Tropical Storm Debby in Florida
Catastrophe modeling firm Risk Management Solutions (RMS) issued the following update on Tropical Storm Debby this morning, Tuesday, June 26:
Over the last 24 hours, Tropical Storm Debby (located over the northeast Gulf of Mexico) has slowly moved towards the Florida coast, bringing tropical storm winds to a large part of western Florida, including the panhandle and extending into southeast Alabama and southwest Georgia.
