California School District Sued Over Yoga Program

An attorney representing a family bent out of shape over a public school yoga program in the beach city of Encinitas filed a lawsuit Wednesday to stop the district-wide classes.

In the lawsuit filed in San Diego Superior Court, attorney Dean Broyles argued that the twice weekly, 30-minute classes are inherently religious, in violation of the separation between church and state.

The plaintiffs are Stephen and Jennifer Sedlock and their children, who are students in the Encinitas Union School District.

Male Cook Files Bias Lawsuit Against Idaho School District

A former cook in the Nampa School District in Idaho filed a federal discrimination lawsuit, claiming he suffered bias in the kitchen at the hands of a female boss and female colleagues.

In U.S. District Court documents filed Wednesday, Todd Young says he was wrongfully fired in May.

Young says sexual harassment from female colleagues escalated after he complained in 2011 the district was improperly disposing of Styrofoam trays, when it should have been recycling.

He says his boss told him “maybe I’m having staff problems because you’re a man.”

The four-year Nampa employee also complains he was routinely excluded from new menu sampling and creation, with only kitchens with female supervisors being allowed to participate.

Young wants a jury trial where he’s seeking lost wages, damages and legal fees.

Fired Employee Sues School District In Oregon

The former business services manager for the Central Point School District in Oregon has filed a $1.4 million lawsuit against the district, alleging she was wrongfully fired.

Vicki Robinson’s court documents state she was let go last year because the school board had been biased against her for years and the superintendent feared he would lose his job if he didn’t fire her.

The school district states it fired Robinson because of poor business practices, including a $1.5 million budgeting error in 2011.

The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in Medford.

The Mail Tribune newspaper reported that lengthy depositions reveal years of animosity between Robinson and board members, with some holding Robinson responsible for another employee’s alleged embezzlement in 2009 that may have led to that employee’s suicide.
