XL Group Appoints Northeast Manager for North America Property Team

XL Group plc’s North America property business appointed Joseph Moylan as its Northeast regional manager. Based in New York, Moylan will serve property insurance clients throughout the Northeast. He reports to Michele Sansone, Eastern Zone executive in XL’s North America property team.

Moylan joins XL Group from Axis Capital, were he served as senior vice president and regional manager and most recently built a new middle market property underwriting unit in the Northeast. He brings more than 30 years of underwriting property and inland marine risks for Zurich Insurance Company, Home Insurance Company, AIG, and William H. McGee & Co., among others.

CAA Insurance Services Adds Benefiel as Agency Manager

Texas-based Combined Agents of America LLC (CAA) announced that Lauri Benefiel has joined as the new agency manager of its CAA Insurance Services (CAAIS) division.

CAA has 47 agency members in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas.

Benefiel, who has a background as an operations manager for a large insurance agency, will report directly to CAA’s second vice president Bill Martin. Before joining CAA, she worked for Heffernan Insurance Brokers in northern California. Benefiel began her career at The Hartford in underwriting, sales, and finally management in their Select Customer Insurance Center.

In 2007, CAA opened the doors to CAAIS, a closed brokerage exclusively for member agencies of CAA. This brokerage was developed to provide a solution and a marketplace for many classes of business that cannot be placed with an agency’s current carriers. In 2011, CAAIS generated more than $5 million in annual premiums.

Connecticut Insurance Department Names New Captive Manager

Connecticut Insurance Commissioner Thomas Leonardi today announced that John C. Thomson, a veteran risk management specialist, will manage the new captive insurance regulatory unit.

Commissioner Leonardi said Thomson brings a strong, diverse background in risk management and that he will be a valuable asset in the department’s regulation of the growing captive industry in Connecticut.

The commissioner made the appointment announcement today during the Captive Insurance Education Symposium at the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts, in Hartford, Conn. The event was sponsored by the Connecticut Insurance & Financial Services Cluster and the newly formed Connecticut Captive Insurance Association.

Thomson began his new position Sept. 28. Prior to joining the insurance department, Thomson was an editor for International Risk Management Institute, the publisher of Captive Insurance Company Reports.

Thomson also was the chief operating officer for energy industry captive, Oil Casualty Insurance, Ltd., and has held leadership positions with General Electric, Aetna, Cigna and Towers Perrin/Tillinghast, a Hartford risk management firm.

EPIC Adds Bentson As Senior Account Manager

Folsom, Calif.-based Edgewood Partners Insurance Center added Jessica Bentson as a senior account manager in its Folsom office.

Bentson’s responsibilities at EPIC will include providing clients with benefits planning and program design support. She will also focus on developing employee benefit communication programs, and coordinating client service team resources.

Bentson has eight years of experience in the healthcare and wellness insurance sector, including six years with Tevis Insurance Solutions as a senior account manager. Before that she was an account manager for Chandlee Insurance Agency.

EPIC is an employee benefits insurance brokerage and consulting firm operating from eight offices across California: Los Angeles, Irvine, Fresno, Folsom, San Francisco, San Mateo, Petaluma and San Ramon.
