Lockett Named Senior VP of Business, Diversified Services at TDECU

TDECU, headquartered in Lake Jackson, Texas, has appointed Robert S. Lockett III as senior vice president of Business and Diversified Services.

Lockett, who has more than 20 years of experience in the financial industry, will be responsible for overseeing the operations of TDECU Wealth Advisors, TDECU Insurance Agency, TDECU Real Estate, Century Oaks Title and TDECU Business Services.

Previously, Lockett served as interim vice president of Business and Diversified Services and as vice president of TDECU Business Services.

Prior to joining TDECU, Lockett served in top leadership positions at Firehouse Charcoal, Royal Oak Enterprises LLC, SouthTrust Bank, Compass Bank and Wachovia.

Lockton Expands Financial Services Team in Kansas City

Privately held insurance broker, Lockton, recently expanded its global financial services team with the hiring of Michael Born in Kansas City.

Born joins the company as vice president providing expertise in the areas of data security, privacy liability, media and specialty errors and omissions insurance. He is a member of Lockton’s Global Technology and Privacy Practice.

With 20 years of experience in the professional liability insurance industry, Born most recently held the position of senior vice president and manager of Underwriting at ThinkRisk Underwriting Agency LLC. Prior to his tenure at ThinkRisk, he held key positions with Axis Pro Insurance, Media Professional, Zurich American, and American Family Insurance. Born also spent five years in private legal practice focusing on insurance related matters.

Independent Insurance Agents of Texas Offers WAHVE Staffing Services

The Independent Insurance Agents of Texas (IIAT) is offering its members remote staffing services provided by WAHVE (Work At Home Vintage Employees) on a preferred basis.

WAHVE provides experienced insurance professionals to insurance agencies and other insurance firms on an outsourced basis for full-time, part-time, or project work. WAHVE’s workers are vintage insurance professionals who are in “phased” retirement and work remotely from home. IIAT is offering WAHVE’s staffing services to its members with a special discount on the setup fee.

IIAT President Patrick Watkins noted: “One problem that we consistently hear from members is that they have a hard time finding, hiring and training talented staff for their agencies. Having experienced and knowledgeable workers to fulfill responsibilities to clients and support sales activity is vital to every insurance agency’s success. WAHVE’s domestic outsourcing services provide an additional workforce option to IIAT members.”

Agencies that outsource to WAHVE save on the costs of hiring, training, salary and benefits, payroll taxes, and office space. Through WAHVE, independent agencies can tap insurance talent from around the United States, Hunt noted.

WAHVE also offers remote staffing services on a preferred basis for members of Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of New York, IBA West, Independent Insurance Agents of Connecticut, and Maine Insurance Agents Association. WAHVE is a participating employer in AARP’s Work Reimagined initiative and is listed as a work-at-home option by Clark Howard.

CAA Insurance Services Adds Benefiel as Agency Manager

Texas-based Combined Agents of America LLC (CAA) announced that Lauri Benefiel has joined as the new agency manager of its CAA Insurance Services (CAAIS) division.

CAA has 47 agency members in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas.

Benefiel, who has a background as an operations manager for a large insurance agency, will report directly to CAA’s second vice president Bill Martin. Before joining CAA, she worked for Heffernan Insurance Brokers in northern California. Benefiel began her career at The Hartford in underwriting, sales, and finally management in their Select Customer Insurance Center.

In 2007, CAA opened the doors to CAAIS, a closed brokerage exclusively for member agencies of CAA. This brokerage was developed to provide a solution and a marketplace for many classes of business that cannot be placed with an agency’s current carriers. In 2011, CAAIS generated more than $5 million in annual premiums.

Dann Joins Miller Insurance Services

Miller Insurance Services LLP, a specialist insurance and reinsurance broker, operating internationally and at Lloyd’s,  has hired Warren Dann to develop Miller’s sector targeting strategy. He will work to grow the company’s portfolio of FTSE100/250 and top 500 UK private clients. He will also be assisting with Miller’s European corporate client acquisition.

Dann, most recently worked for Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT) as the sales leader for its Global Risk Solutions division. He began his career in 1989 and is a specialist in frontline new business development. Before JLT he worked for both Aon Risk Services and Willis as a development director.

“Over the past two years, Miller has more than doubled its list of corporate clients. Warren’s industry knowledge and reputation will help us to continue to grow this aspect of our business towards our next set of targets,” said Ken MacDonald, head of Corporate Risks at Miller.

SCA Names Cody to Client Services Division

Burbank, Calif.-based SCA Appraisal Co. named Wayne Cody to its client services division.

Cody’s industry experience began with Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. starting as an adjuster. He was eventually promoted to national catastrophe claims coordinator. He was most recently vice president of a national auto damage appraisal company

SCA is a privately owned auto material damage appraisal firm that services 46 U.S. states and Puerto Rico.

USI Insurance Services Acquires Assets of National Insurance Specialists

USI Insurance Services announced it has closed on the acquisition of certain assets of Toledo, Ohio-based National Insurance Specialists (NIS).

The acquisition is expected to contribute approximately $1.6 million in revenues to USI on an annual basis. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquired entity will be integrated into USI Affinity, a division of USI Insurance Services. The transaction makes USI Affinity the number one equipment rental industry insurance broker in the country, according to the announcement.

Doug W. Kreitzberg, CEO of USI Affinity, noted that USI and NIS have many years of combined experience handling rental industry accounts.

Gamez previously held the position of vice president of commercial lines for USI of Southern California Insurance Services.
