Associated Agencies Names Herz President and Schrayer CEO

Associated Agencies Inc., based in Rolling Meadows, Ill., has promoted 35-year-old Joshua Herz to president, making him the fourth person in the same family to hold the position.

Herz succeeds his cousin, Max (Skip) R. Schrayer, who was recently named chief executive officer. As president, Herz will maintain his current client base and actively mentor new salespeople within the company. As CEO, Schrayer will continue to maintain his own client base and oversee operations.

Since joining Associated Agencies as an account producer in 2003, Herz has moved into top management, earning the title of vice president in 2009. Currently, he sits on the executive boards of Associated Agencies and one of its affiliates, Auto and Home Insurance Agency.

Prior to joining Associated Agencies, Herz worked at General Electric for four years. At GE, Herz became a Six Sigma blackbelt and was handpicked for Jeff Imelt’s elite Commercial Leadership Program. Herz lives in Highland Park, Ill. with his wife and three children.

Schrayer began his career at Associated Agencies, Inc. as a part-time employee in 1974, moving to full-time in 1982. A producer of large accounts, Schrayer manages the largest book of business in the office. He also serves as sales manager and as a member of the board of directors. As president of Associated Agencies Inc. and Auto and Home Insurance Agency Inc., he oversaw all aspects of commercial and personal insurance for individuals as well as businesses of all sizes, both for-profit and not-for-profit nationwide.

Schrayer remains president of Auto and Home Insurance Agency in Downers Grove, Ill.

AAIS Names Parkes Vice President of Sales

Don Parkes, an insurance executive with 18 years’ experience in catastrophe risk management, has been named vice president of sales for the American Association of Insurance Services (AAIS).

AAIS is a national insurance advisory organization that develops policy forms and rating information used by 700 property/casualty insurers.

As part of his duties as AAIS vice president of sales, Parkes will be the product leader for the AAIS Homeowners By-Peril Plan, the first bureau plan filed and approved in most states for rating homeowners insurance by separate perils.

Parkes comes to AAIS from CoreLogic, which maintains databases on properties, mortgages, and consumers.  Before joining CoreLogic in 2007, Parkes was senior vice president and chief risk officer at ICAT Holdings LLC, a catastrophe risk firm based in Boulder, Col. Prior to his years at ICAT, Parkes was with Risk Management Solutions Inc.,  a catastrophe modeling firm.

Monitor Liability Managers LLC, based in Rolling Meadows, Ill., has promoted Lynette Lyngaas to the position of vice president of underwriting – employment practices liability, management liability.

Lyngaas, formerly assistant vice president of underwriting – employment practices liability, management liability, is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Monitor’s employment practices liability and management liability product lines. She was integral in developing Monitor’s current industry-specific EPLI programs and continues to design new coverage enhancements to meet the needs of Monitor’s insureds.

Lyngaas has 23 years of insurance industry experience.

Irvine, Calif.-based SullivanCurtisMonroe Insurance Services LLC named Canaan Crouch as a vice president in its Irvine office.

Crouch comes from ACE Environmental, where he was an assistant vice president and northwestern regional manager responsible for managing the profit and loss of a diversified book of environmental liability policies.  Prior to joining ACE, he was a senior underwriter for AIG and before that he was an environmental consultant, where he managed the environmental compliance for a portfolio of sites throughout Southern California.

N.Y.-Based Claims Management Company Invision Names Randazzo President

Invision, a national claims management company providing third party administration, claims auditing and other services, recently appointed Richard G. Randazzo as its new president.

Randazzo brings three decades of experience in claims management to his new role as well as a 37-year history working in claims investigations. As president, he will oversee all claims matters, including third-party administration, risk management, loss control, claims auditing services, investigation services – including surveillance, skip tracing and background checks, as well as record retrieval and trial preparation.

Throughout his career in management, Randazzo has worked in property/casualty insurance, including commercial general liability, homeowner, commercial property, employment practices, inland marine and private passenger and commercial auto. Randazzo is also personally licensed in more than 12 states and is an active member in many claims and insurance associations.

Additionally, Invision also welcomed Carol Meriam as its new claims manager. In her new role, Meriam will be responsible for claims with high exposures, complex issues and extended litigation on behalf of Invision. Since joining the company
in 1997, Meriam has managed major run-off programs, claims analysis and served as an independent expert witness in a multi-million dollar lawsuit.

Invision is a national claims management company, providing services in third party administration, claims auditing, record retrieval, trial preparation, investigation and all related services, risk management and loss control. The Bay Shore, N.Y.-based company has provided claims services across the United States for more than a decade.

Argo Group Names Betz President of U.S. Surety Operation

Argo Group International Holdings Ltd. has promoted Josh Betz to president of Argo Surety, Argo Group’s Houston, Texas-based U.S. surety operation. He reports to Chief Financial Officer Jay Bullock.

Betz previously held the position of senior vice president and chief underwriting officer for Argo Surety. He has worked in the commercial surety business as a managing director for Travelers and as an underwriter at both CNA Surety and Reliance Surety.

Van Gilder Names Former Community Bankshares CEO as New President

Denver, Colo.-based Van Gilder Insurance Corp. named Don Woods its new president.

Woods is co-founder and CEO of Community Bankshares Inc. and its subsidiaries. He began his new role at Van Gilder on Monday.

Under Woods, Community Bankshares Inc. grew to over $2 billion in assets and had 42 branches in Colorado and northern California.

A privately held insurance brokerage firm, Van Gilder is in its fourth generation of leadership by the Van Gilder family.

Poms Names Herbert Vice President of Employee Benefits

Los Angeles, Calif.-based Poms and Associates Insurance Brokers named Jack Herbert vice president of employee benefits in the firm’s Los Angeles office.

Herbert will focus on companies with 51 to 2,000 employees. He was previously founder and principal in the New York office of Benemax Inc, where his primary focus was working with private equity groups and their portfolio companies. Prior to Benemax, Herbert was with Citigroup and Rodman & Renshaw.

Poms services include commercial insurance, employee benefits, corporate wellness, personal lines, and risk management and risk control.  The firm has offices in California, Colorado, New Mexico and Washington.

Dowdy Elected President of Insurance Premium Auditors Society

The National Society for Insurance Premium Auditors (NSIPA) announced a new slate of officers at its annual seminar at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas, Nev.

Serving as new officers for 2012-2013 are:

NSIPA’s new officers assume office on July 1 for the 2012-2013 membership year.

The seminar featured 12 speakers from the insurance industry, including the director of education with Insurance Journal’s Academy of Insurance, Christopher J. Boggs, and the deputy commissioner of the Nevada Division of Insurance, Las Vegas, Harland Amborn. More than 200 insurance auditing professionals attended the seminar, including eighteen industry vendors and sponsors.

The National Society of Insurance Premium Auditors (NSIPA) is a professional society of individuals with technical skills who assure statistics are reported for proper rate structure implementation and processing.

Fireman’s Fund Names Chanana to Senior Vice President

Novato, Calif.-based Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co. named Arun Chanana as senior vice president of distribution and agency management.

Chanana will be based in Fireman’s Fund’s Liberty Corner office in New Jersey.

Chanana will provide strategic and operational direction for the distribution and agency management team, which is responsible for enhancing agent and broker relationships by driving accountability and alignment.

Chanana is a 25-year insurance industry veteran. His career includes positions as an underwriter, broker and management consultant. Most recently, Chanana served as vice president at national brokerage USI Holdings Corp. He also held leadership positions with AIG NSM Insurance Group, Munich Re, Aon, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Deloitte.

Fireman’s Fund is a member of the Allianz Group.
